Boyfriend (33m) hasn’t proposed to me (28F) after 6 1/2 years. I am feeling extremely sad and jealous of all our friends getting married. Is it me that’s the problem?
He brought up getting engaged about a year ago. It was very brief and caught me off guard. One morning before work he asked me “do you want to get married at a court house” and I said “yes” and then that was it we both had to leave for work. Nothing was every brought up again until today.
. I brought it up again briefly today and asked if we were going to get married at a court house and he acted brand new. He was like “why a court house” and I was like “idk you suggested this first” and then he left for work. I was like what the f***, did I misunderstand what he was saying like six months ago?! I felt really embarrassed and nothing on this topic was mentioned after this.
Now I’m just really sad. Two friends just sent out wedding invites and one of them is not allowing plus ones if they aren’t married and I am hurt.
Everyone talks about their marriages when we go on double dates and it just makes me feel like they are acting like they are better then me or us in some way. I know it’s probably a self esteem issue but it’s starting to get on my nerves since it always seems like a back handed comment on some things they mention.
I don’t know how to approach this and need advice/suggestions.
